Personal scales

For home body-weight tracking, compare the listed capacity, display readability, platform size and power source. A scale reading is not a medical diagnosis.

Jewellery and pocket scales

Compare the listed capacity and displayed increment with the size of the item. When weight is used for a regulated trade, verify the instrument and local requirements with the relevant authority.

Luggage scales

For travel bags, check the maximum listed load, displayed increment, grip or strap design and unit options. Leave a margin below an airline limit because baggage rules and scale readings can differ.

Quick Answers

Common buying questions

How do I choose a scale for home use?

Choose the scale type for the item: a personal scale for body weight, a kitchen scale for ingredients, or a luggage scale for bags. Then check capacity, platform or hook design, units, power and display readability.

What does display resolution mean?

It is the smallest step shown by the display. A 1 g display increment does not mean every measurement is verified within 1 g. Accuracy also depends on the instrument, calibration, load and conditions.

Can I use a pocket scale for buying or selling precious metals?

A listed display increment alone does not show that a scale is approved for trade. Confirm the instrument’s certification and local legal requirements before relying on it for a regulated transaction.
